Karen and Olivia's Chic City Wedding in Auckland

Happy Friday, wedding lovers! Today's post is a real treat, I love Olivia and Karen's approach to their wedding: A gorgeous cocktail party in a downtown Auckland art gallery

Olivia and Karen met at a singles meetup group for folks new to the city. After spending one evening sitting together they've stayed that way ever since. Each of them were planning to propose to the other - Karen had a ring kept aside for Olivia and was planning a special proposal, when Olivia jumped the gun by spontaneously proposing to Karen with no ring!

Getting married in an art gallery was a great option for this couple who wanted their wedding to be relaxed and stress free. No decorations or flowers required.

Here's Olivia describing their ceremony:
The ceremony was very us. We both chose a special person each to read a poem as part of the ceremony and we also had our witnesses perform a hand tying ceremony for us. This was meant to have been with my grandmother’s scarf but when my mum took it out of storage we found it had been eaten by moths. Instead Amanda made us a tie made of a number of ribbons with each colour representing a part of our future lives. We wanted something non-traditional and we looked at a variety of different options. We were both keen on a art gallery and found Gus Fisher on Pinterest. After we made the first enquiries we realised the gallery is part of the University which is where I work which was a nice surprise. It certainly made planning a lot easier!

Thanks to David St. George for these wonderful pictures.

Olivia's advice for brides to be: Someone told me to take a step back on the day and just take everything in. This was advice he was given before he got married and he highly recommended it and I do now too.

Huge thanks to Olivia and Karen for sharing their special day with us and to David St. George for the photos.

Love Leah x
